After six months in the gig, the 18-year brought up the milestone aboard Nippers Grin for his father Chris at Leeton on Friday night.
After steering the $81 shot home, Watson was thrilled to get off the mark.
"I couldn't believe it," Watson said. "I thought he was gone at the top of the straight but he kicked back and just got it for us."
Nippers Grin was forced to race without cover throughout the Coprice Pace (1758m), but was able to out tough his rivals to down Smokin Tally by a half neck.
It was the seven-year-old's first win since July 2018.
Watson, who also owns the gelding, was particularly pleased to end his drought.
"It was overwhelming being my first winner and he was the first horse I've ever owned," he said.
"Just to see him win was amazing.
"He was feeling good but dropped the bit up the straight, but once I hit him again he just went for it.
"It's been a couple of years but it is good to see him win again.
"Being seven years old he is nearly at the end of his time, but we'll give him a few more now."
Watson also claimed family bragging rights with dad eighth in the same race.
The Watsons are originally from the Hunter, but have made the most of the move to Wagga just over a month ago.
Watson almost made it a big night out after just missing out on a double when Eastbro Tex finished a nose off Sports Street in the Kennedy Family Memorial later on the card.
