Ballista ($5.00) finished too strong for a quality group of sprinters in the Anthony Malone Constructions Wagga Scamper (1000m).
It continued a brilliant run for Gorrel, who also grabbed third place in the sprint with Exaggerate ($8.50). Only Wagga sprinter Takookacod ($8.00) split the pair for the quinella.
Ballista has not finished further back than second at her past six starts and Gorrel will now put her away for the Wagga carnival, and potentially a crack at the $200,000 Town Plate (1200m).
"They will both go for a little break now and I'll get them back for the Wagga carnival," Gorrel said.
"I'd love to (target the Town Plate) but it's going to be a hard race. I won't say no and we'll have a look at it."
Kayla Nisbet rode Ballista to victory.
Both Ballista and Exaggerate are just two examples of tried horses Gorrel is having a lot of luck with as he looks to build his stable. He has had nine winners from his last 50 starters.
"It's going real good, super. We've had a really good two of three months," he said.
"We've got a nice team of tried horses there. Like any young trainer starting out, I can't afford to go to the yearling sales so I'm picking the eyes out of tried horses."
Gorrel paid tribute to his track work rider Anaelle Gangotena, who he says has been a big part of the stable's success.
Meantime, Goulburn trainer Mark Gee enjoyed a successful visit to Wagga as he recorded an early winning double courtesy of Cap's Boy ($3.20) and Breaking Cover ($2.25).
