The lane will be closed from January 28 to February 11 to allow for the construction of a new 235-metre footpath.
The new footpath will be built on the southern edge of Bolton Park between Edwina Street and the railway overpass.
"Works will take place between 7.00am and 5.00pm weather permitting," the council stated on Facebook.
"The road will have lower speed limits and be under the direction of traffic controllers."
It is likely Edward Street will also see more heavy transport traffic next month with the closure of Eunony Bridge from February 14 to July 31 for upgrade works.
