RIVERINA Lions president Amy Coote has dismissed their prolonged search for a new coach as merely business as usual as the team shoots for a third straight premiership.

The Lions remain on the lookout for a new mentor after Jed Lawton stepped after guiding the team to the past two AFL Canberra regional women's flags.
Coote will also take on a captain-coach role until a replacement is found, with team stalwart Steve Barton assisting with the keyboard duties.
"We've had absolutely no luck on the coaching front. We had a couple of guys interested, but it's a big commitment with the travel," Coote said.
"Not at all (are we concerned), this is how we've started off our season the last two or three years.
"I'm going to be captain-coach until we find someone, alongside Steve Barton who will assist. He's been involved with the club for about 17 years so we'll do it until someone comes along."
Coote said a senior coaching role would appeal after she hangs up the boots.
"I'd prefer to be a player but when I can't play, it's something I'd like to look into," she said.
"I coach the under-16 youth girls and I really enjoy that."
The Lions held a come and try day for interested players last weekend, and Coote was happy with the turnout which featured some promising new faces.
"It was a good turnout and we started our pre-season training this week, which we got even more numbers to," she said.
"It's a bit too soon to talk about that (our chances of winning the flag). We've got to start from the very beginning every year with new players and get everyone up to scratch with the basics."
