The 17-year-old blasted 102 as Colts knocked off second-placed St Michaels to win back the Koetz-Jolliffe Cup under lights at Robertson Oval on Saturday.
Mooney, who made the move from South Wagga this season looking for more opportunities in first grade, led the way at the top of Colts' innings as they finished at 5-210.
He then removed Justin Ward (0) early as St Michaels struggled to get their run chase going.
Colts captain Keenan Hanigan was thrilled with Mooney's performance.
"Moons has been playing some good cricket for us and just took it to another level," Hanigan said.
"For a 17-year-old to score a century like he did is pretty special.
"He's got a lot of confidence at the moment."
Mooney, who made 50 to help South Wagga through to last season's grand final, has started the new year off well after making 58 in the win over Lake Albert last week.
"We needed someone to dig in and get a big score and we just built around him as he was hitting everything out of the middle," Hanigan said.
Hanigan was also thrilled with the team's performance in the 28-run victory.
He snared four wickets to bowl Saints out for 182 but was more pleased with how Colts managed to finish off a positive start to the clash.
"Hopefully we can get on a roll now as in most games this season we have been in every game but just can't finish them off and that was the most pleasing thing," Hanigan said.
"We finished the game off and it was looking like were cruising at one stage but we dug in and got the win."
Saints captain Beck Frostick loomed at the biggest threat as he continued his great form with the bat.
He made 73 but the side struggled for partnerships with Tom Byrnes (37), Michael Cattell (31) and James Evans (19) the only batsmen to make it past five.
Colts are now four points behind fourth-placed Wagga RSL and Hanigan hopes the result will be a confidence boost heading into the last two rounds against St Michaels and Wagga City.
