The Lions will get their pre-season training underway on Tuesday under the watchful eye of Macri, who will enter a third consecutive season as coach.
GGGM is yet to strike any major success on the recruitment front but have added some depth to the club's list with a few new and returning players.
The Lions were somewhat surprise preliminary finalists in 2018 in Macri's first year back as coach, then were bundled out in the first week of finals last year.
Macri is hopeful the club will be able to add a couple of significant recruits in the next month but is still happy enough with how they are placed.
"We're pretty much the same as what we've had so the guys know where we're at," Macri said.
"We stepped back a bit last year so we'll change things up a bit so hopefully we can step back up again next year."
GGGM have lost Zac Wiencke to Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes, while Max McCaig and Hugh Templeton have moved away for university.
Tom Anderson will also be a late starter after breaking his leg wakeboarding recently.
The Lions have added Hugh Hassell from Geelong, while Rhys Langtry has made the switch from Marrar.
Angus Cumming has moved back, while Mitch Fennessy, Travis Collison and Wayne Bryon have returned from Tumbarumba.
The Fennessy brothers, Brent and Mitch, will coach the club's reserve grade team, where Macri hopes pressure on positions will be generated.
"Mitch and Brent are coaching the twos and that will freshen things up for us as well," he said.
"They'll bring some different ideas and a different set of eyes. Mitch is doing some coaching with the Giants Academy, which is good.
"We needed some help with our numbers in the ressies and hopefully we'll have twos wanting the opportunity to play first grade footy, which is great.
"When you've got the twos playing well it makes selection tough at times and it wasn't as tough as it should have been last year."
Macri also expects big seasons from the likes of Michael Rothnie, Scott Proctor and Dan Foley.
Rothnie had his first season with the Lions last year and Macri expects him to be a big improver in 2020.
"I think Rothnie will be a heap better this year," he said.
"He had hamstring issues last year and it took him half a year to get going. So I think he'll go much better.
"Scott Proctor is keen to go again and I think a guy like Dan Foley has good improvement in him."
The Lions will kick off their season with a trip to Griffith to take on the Swans on April 18.
Meantime, reigning premiers Wagga Tigers will also begin their pre-season campaign next week with training on Monday.
