Will Weaver appears all but certain to assist Brett Brown at the Tokyo Olympics after being appointed as Boomers coach for next month's Asia Cup qualifiers.

Basketball Australia on Wednesday announced an extended 24-man squad for matches against New Zealand at home, and Hong Kong away, in February.
The Boomers face the Tall Blacks at Nissan Centre in Brisbane on February 20, before heading to Hong Kong three days later.
The list is headed by veterans, Chris Goulding, Mitch Creek, David Barlow, Cameron Gliddon and Nathan Sobey.
All five played in Australia's fourth-place finish at last year's FIBA World Cup.
The squad also includes promising talents, Kouat Noi (Cairns), Will Magnay (Brisbane) and Daniel Grida (Wollongong).
No Sydney Kings and Perth Wildcats players were selected given both teams have all but clinched spots in the NBL playoffs, which begin the same weekend.
Players from other teams who qualify for the playoffs will also be omitted.
Weaver, who is currently the coach of the NBL-leading Kings, was an assistant coach to former Boomers Andrej Lemanis, who stepped down in November.
Weaver was widely tipped to be retained by Brown, who will miss the qualifying games as he attempts to take the Philadelphia 76ers into the NBA playoffs.
"We're fortunate we have so many talented players eager to step up whenever they have the chance to represent Australia," Weaver said.
"It's always a tremendous honour to be part of the Boomers program.
"And we are excited for this group to start the journey of qualifying for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup on home soil against New Zealand in Brisbane."
Brisbane Bullets assistant coach CJ Bruton and Adam Caporn, head coach of BA's Centre of Excellence, will be Weaver's assistants.
