Two games from round four the Southern NSW Women's competition will be played at Robertson Oval before the AFLW game between Greater Western Sydney and Richmond on Saturday, March 7.

Charles Sturt University has been scheduled to play Riverina Lions, while new teams North Wagga and East Wagga-Kooringal have also been given the opportunity.

AFL Riverina football operations coordinator Tom Walker said it was an exciting opportunity for some of the region's female footballers.

"It's great for the competition," Walker said.

"As the competition continues to grow, it's a great reward for local players, who will get the chance to show off their talent before two AFL clubs.

"We're looking to build on the competition in coming years so to have two curtain raisers to use as a springboard and help promote it is fantastic for footy in the region."

Talented CSU footballer Gab Goldsworthy welcomed the news.

"It's awesome, I'm pretty excited," Goldsworthy said.

"We're still waiting for the final draw to come out but the girls will be pretty excited when they see that.

"Lots of the girls won't think of it this way but with the AFLW coaches watching you play, it will be an experience the local girls won't get very often.

"Also to get the opportunity to watch the girls after we play. It's excellent."

CSU have won the first two Southern NSW women's premierships. They defeated Riverina Lions to win the first title, before beating Griffith at Exies Oval last year to go back-to-back.

CSU's team returned to training on Monday night after holding some training sessions before Christmas.

At this stage, the two games will be played as two 18 minute halves, with a five minute half-time break.

There will be an eight minute break between the two matches.

The opening round of the Southern NSW competition is being held on Friday, February 14.
