Batlow's old Mountain Maid Cannery burnt down in the recent bushfire presenting a new obstacle to the council's plans of redeveloping the site.

The site and old building was largely unused since canning production stopped in the early 2000s and in recent years Snowy Valley Council have called for expressions of interest and quotes to redevelop.
Batlow mayor James Hayes said they were "still exploring their options".
"We had a contractor in there who was salvaging what was usable, and we will continue to work with them to see where to go to from here," he said.

Cr Hayes said the cleanup would be the first step to work through.
"Obviously we will need some assistance to clean the site up," he said.
"In the end, we have the community's, council's and contractor's best interests at heart."
