The Tumut Bupa aged care home was evacuated on Friday, with residents taken by bus to Canberra as bushfires threaten whole towns in the South West Slopes region.

The Daily Advertiser understands that Bupa was advised by the Rural Fire Service that is was no longer safe for residents to remain at the Lambie Street aged care home.
"On the advice of emergency services, Bupa has commenced the precautionary evacuation of residents from two of our care homes in NSW: Eden (which has 39 residents) and Tumut (which has 80 residents)," a Bupa statement said on Friday afternoon.
"We arranged for coaches to evacuate our Eden and Tumut residents to other Bupa care homes in Canberra. We were well-prepared with food, water and medical equipment to ensure residents were comfortable during the journey.
"Staff were also on board these buses.We have been keeping in regular contact with residents' families and next-of-kin.

Bupa stated that the company expected "the buses to arrive safely in Canberra this afternoon".
"Bupa expresses its deep gratitude to the NSW Rural Fire Service, local volunteers and our dedicated people in Eden and Tumut who helped us evacuate this morning," the statement said.
"We have been in these two communities for a number of years, and our thoughts are with our residents' families, our staff and their families, and the wider community."
Bupa Tumut can accommodate up to 99 residents including 20 beds for specialised dementia care.
Batlow was evacuated on Friday morning ahead of wind conditions expected to push the Dunns Road bushfire towards the town, while Talbingo was also under threat.
Extreme fire conditions have been forecast on Saturday, with strong winds and high temperatures placing more towns under threat.
There is currently to date available for when the Tumut Bupa residents might expect to return to their aged care home.
Bupa stated on Thursday that the health and aged care provider was in "frequent liaison with local and state emergency services (twice daily) to determine the seriousness of the situation and the level of risk posed to our care homes and residents".
"We are continuing to monitor the changing conditions of the homes in the fire zones very closely, to ensure the safety of residents and our staff," the statement said.
"We are also in close contact with the Department of Health and the Health and Emergency Management Unit.

"Bupa's thoughts are with those impacted by these fires - including residents and their families, our staff, and the wider community. And in particular we thank the local fire brigades, fireys and the wonderful volunteers for their support during this time."
