Residents in the Khancoban area are being warned to leave now ahead of the fire storm which could bring the Green Valley Talmalmo fire and the Dunn Road fire together, trapping those who chose to remain.
"If people remain in this area they will experience extreme fire behaviour over the next two days," incident controller Superintendent Pat Westwood said.
"We believe the north westerly winds will expand the flanks beyond where they are now and with a south westerly change due sometime during Saturday it is anticipated that erratic fire behaviour will occur.
"This includes spotting, heavy cloud, ember attacks, smoke to the point where you can't see, limited visibility so that driving would be dangerous and winds in excess of 100km/h due to fire driven weather events like we saw on December 30 which unfortunately killed a member of our service and injured five others.
MORE FIRE UPDATES:
"It is not a place to stay, even if you are well prepared you need to be considering that these are the conditions you are going to face if you stay there."
Superintendent Westwood warned people in the area between Khancoban, Maragle, Mannus and Jingellic that leaving today is the safest option.
"You have two large fire fronts with what you could describe as two candles being put together," he said.
"Unfortunately we have fire in the nature reserve in the middle which may draw the two fires together and it will be unsafe for me to put crews into that area.

"If you are in that leave area you have the potential to be impacted through two fires drawing together, and at a large scale, although it is hard to comprehend, will provide an extremely difficult conditions for any residents and firefighters in there.
"We cannot get a truck to everybody."
The horror conditions, which include temperatures above 40 degrees and strong winds, are expected to begin today and people should leave now.
"It is unlikely we will be able to get resources to you if you stay, you may be impacted by fires from both directions, you need to be aware this isn't a safe place to be in that leave area," Superintendent Westwood said.
A register for displaced people will be open at the Lauren Jackson Sports Stadium in Albury from 4pm-6pm today.
