Wagga's under 12s, 13s, 14 and 16s sides played host on day one of the tournament but poor air quality saw matches called off early on Thursday morning.
Junior cricket co-ordinator Simon Rosengren said health and safety was paramount in making the decision.
"The kids would probably still be running around but have a duty of care to look after them," Rosengren said.
"We have the air quality index and we kicked off before the level became too high.
"We virtually didn't play too much cricket."
Wagga had CAW Country at 5-60 in the under 14s clash at Henwood Park before play was abandoned.
The competition is planned to continue on Friday and Saturday but the heat is expected to become another obstacle with forecast tops above 40 degrees on both days.
The tournament has already been forced to find new grounds with Tallangatta and Yackandandah closed due to the bushfire crisis.
"Really our issues are only minor to what has created it," Rosengren said.
The under 17s are set to face CAW at Robertson Oval on Saturday but they game may be shifted to a later start in an attempt to play in cooler conditions.
