"Unfortunately due to severe weather conditions and approaching fires, we have had to cancel the 75th Tumbarumba Rodeo," the organising committee posted on Facebook on Tuesday morning.
"Please help us spread the word by sharing this post and stay safe!"
The rodeo was already in doubt after the 75th year reunion scheduled for Tuesday was postponed due to the nearby fires.
A number of the rodeo's Facebook followers said they were disappointed that the event had been cancelled but commended the committee for making the decision.
The rodeo committee advised the reunion has been postponed early on Tuesday morning.
"Best wishes to all who are fighting fires in our surrounding towns. Stay safe," they said.
As of Tuesday morning, firefighters were battling a 26,000 hectare bushfire that originated in the Ellerslie and Tarcutta area on Saturday and was threatening the Tumbarumba township.
