The heartbreaking decision to switch off the nine-year-old's life support was made on Sunday, two days after he was discovered not responsive in the water at the Griffith Regional Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

The boy, who police believe suffered from a medical condition, was pulled from the pool by a parent when he was found slumped in the water near the side around 3pm on Friday.

Lifeguards at the centre began CPR, with paramedics taking over and police arriving soon after.

The boy was taken to Griffith Base Hospital before being flown to Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick on Friday evening in a critical condition.

On Sunday, his life support was switched off.

Police are investigating the incident, which is not being treated as suspicious, and will prepare a report for the coroner.

The facility was closed early on Friday as police examined the scene and spoke to staff, who have been offered counselling.
