Thompson smashed a boundary to bring up his hundred and deliver the Cats a seven-wicket victory at Robertson Oval on Saturday night.
With City quickly approaching Wagga RSL's total of 9-159, Thompson needed the boundary to bring up his own milestone.
He found the rope through the covers to finish unbeaten on 100 however the Cats captain wasn't focused on his own score.
Instead Thompson just wanted to make sure his side ended their two-match losing run.
"It wasn't about me, it was about getting the win," Thompson said.
"Getting the 100 was just the extra icing on the cake.
"I'm just glad we got the win."
Wagga City strung five wins on the trot after a loss to South Wagga in round one, but after again falling to the Blues and then St Michaels in successive rounds
They did plenty of soul searching during the week and Thompson was thrilled with the way the team responded.
"We had a few pretty difficult chats around the first grade group in the last two weeks about where we are in the season, where we want to be and what we want to achieve at the end of the year and I'm just really happy everyone has taken it on board," he said.
"We went with a pretty young and agile side this week and I'm really, really happy with the way the boys bounced back."
Marcus Sevior started things off well for Wagga RSL, top scoring with 74, however the young opener was the only Bulldogs batsmen to make it to 20.
They struggled for partnerships and Thompson was pleased with an all-round performance for the Cats bowling attack.
Max Harper, Louis Grigg and Angus Grigg all picked up two wickets while Rob Nicoll removed Sevior.
"We've identified that we need to bowl in partnerships and you can't afford to let the bowler at the other end down by leaking runs," Thompson said.
"If you try to limit it a boundary every over and if you are doing that the pressure just builds up.
"The way Rob Nicoll bowled through the middle with Louis and Angus at either end, plus Jono (Nicoll) and Max Harper bowled really well, it is a credit to them."
Wagga City remain in third but the result not only gives them some breathing space on the chasing pack, but Thompson expects it will be a real confidence boost with one round to play before the Christmas break.
The loss sees Wagga RSL remain outside the top four but they remain level on point with Lake Albert, and six ahead of Kooringal Colts, in what shapes as the battle for fourth place.
The Bulldogs will be looking to hit back against Lake Albert in the Twenty20 to end the year while the Cats play the Colts.
