The total fire ban will take effect for the Wagga, Coolamon, Junee, Albury, Lockhart and Greater Hume local government areas.
The city is heading for a top of 38 degrees with hot conditions and light winds, according to the Bureau of Meteorology's forecast.
With the mercury expected to soar, the Eastern Riverina's fire danger risk is set at very high.

The Rural Fire Service's rules state that during a Total Fire Ban no fire can be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended.
