Brent Rooke and his wife Katie said their secret ingredient has always been going at their own pace and making sure their needs are always at the forefront.
Mr Rooke moved to Wagga when he was eight years old and moved on after 10 years of schooling to become a pilot.
After about four years of travelling and spending time in areas such as Newcastle, Darwin, Moree, Bathurst and Wagga, he decided at the age of 22 that he was lacking some direction and joined the army.
"I went to the Royal Military College in Duntroon for 18 months from 2000 to 2001 and then went to do my pilot training all over again, with the military," Mr Rooke said.
"I travelled back up to Darwin, then Toowoomba and ended up joining Jetstar in 2010.
"I then went back to Darwin again for six months and ended up in Melbourne in late 2010 and I've been here ever since - it's the longest I have spent anywhere besides Wagga."
Mr Rooke has been a commercial pilot for nine years and in 2014, he met his future wife Katie and just a few months later they both decided to complete a Master of Business Administration at RMIT University.
The pair married in February 2016 and had their daughter Georgia in March, 2018. Now at the age of 42, Mr Rooke is preparing to graduate today alongside his wife.
Mrs Rooke admitted that juggling a baby, study and work, while her husband was away, was challenging but took steps to ensure it didn't become overwhelming.
"We really tried to make it fun ... it was incredibly competitive ... we were sensible about how much we had going on versus making sure we maximised what we had in our lives," she said.
"When Brent went away, I would have a break from study instead overloading and it was just time for Georgia and I.
"She's only just started sleeping, so if I combined study it would've been too overwhelming."
Mrs Rooke said it is an "incredible achievement" and shows her daughter that when she grows up she can do whatever she wants to do.
The pair are planning to take a break, with the hopes of starting their own business in the near future.
"For four-and-half years we've been doing this program and it's been a constant in our life from the time we started dating," Mr Rooke said.
"It's a long time to be doing the course, but we wanted to have a life ... so we took a semester break when we got married and when we had a daughter.
"It's been quite fun; when you're not studying full time, it's not a chore ... it's been a great experience."
