Cherry harvest is well underway for the season, marking the start of the festival's 70th year.
The festival will feature their famous Pip Spit competition, challenging attendees to break the record for distance, as well as a cherry pie eating competition, cherry picking and the crowning of the Cherry King or Queen.
Festival president Caitlin Sheehan said there would be more than enough to keep busy with over the three days.
"It actually kicks off this evening at 5pm and runs right through to 2pm Sunday," she said.
"We have everything from the fireworks tonight and live entertainment from local performers to wood chopping, orchard tours and amusement for the little kids and big kids."
A variety of fringe events will surround the main event in Young's CBD as well, making it an inviting festival for a short getaway.
"It is the 70th anniversary this year so there's been a lot of hype about that and we are hoping to get a bigger crowd, but as always it is hard to put a number on it," Ms Sheehan said.
