In a horrifying twist to a shift, a service station employee was threatened with a shotgun during an armed robbery on Wednesday morning.
Officers are investigating the incident after a sum of money and cigarettes were stolen from the Caltex on Hammond Ave.
Riverina Police District Inspector Peter McLay said just after 4am a staff member was outside when an early-model BMW sedan pulled up with at least two people inside.
"An offender has threatened the service station attendant with a firearm and walked him back into the service station where a sum of money and cigarettes were stolen," he said.
"During the robbery, the shop attendant was threatened and is somewhat shaken by the ordeal. His wallet and keys were also taken."
Inspector McLay said CCTV shows one offender entering the service station holding a shotgun, and wearing dark clothing.
He added the staff member's BT50 dual-cab utility was stolen as well by one of the offenders.
"We know there are at least two offenders involved in this incident," Inspector McLay said.
"The BMW had been stolen earlier in the night from Urana Street."
The BMW was found burnt out on Eunony Bridge Road, but the ute was found without damage on Buna Street, Ashmont.
The service station was closed until about 9am this morning while police and forensics commenced investigations.
Inspector McLay is urging anyone who saw the cars about 4.15am, most likely heading east towards Forest Hill, to contact police.
"Anytime that offenders resort to using firearms is a concern," he said. "Police are doing all they can."
The armed robbery comes less than a week after a staff member at a Tolland service station faced a terrifying ordeal when a man allegedly armed himself with a knife and attempted an armed hold-up.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Wagga police station on 6922 2599.
