Civic Theatre manager Carissa Campbell said the upcoming season will be so huge that two shows will be taken out of the traditional tiered seating of the theatre.

The 2020 program will start in February with a one night only event at Food I Am, which Ms Campbell said will be a night of gypsy music and food from eastern Europe.

She said the second show to move outside the venue will be a slightly improvised tale of Jekyll and Hyde at Thirsty Crow.

"There is a real shift in the air and people want experiences. They want a one-off thing that they can share on social media, something a bit different, something more active," she said.

"At Food I Am people can dance, chat, talk and eat, and at Thirsty Crow you will be a part of the show if you go."

Ms Campbell said the other highlights of next year include Circus Oz, Bell Shakespeare, the Sydney Dance Company, Opera Australia, and the return of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

"Food I Am is in the beautiful late summer, the perfect time to be out there ... and through the winter we actually have some of those big shows, but that's the perfect time to come inside," she said.

"We are so lucky in Wagga because we have [all these big shows] all in one year."

During the 2019 season, more than 55,000 people purchased tickets, which is a 21 per cent increase on the previous year and the biggest year in the civic theatre's history.

As the population increase Ms Campbell said the demand for a bigger space will continue to grow.

She said the council's cultural plan is expected to be released early next year for the community to provide feedback.

"We certainly have space for a medium and smaller theatre to attach to us, which could open up a whole range of possibilities for festivals and smaller acts," she said.
