The Bulldogs will resume at 0-48 after bowling the Colts out for 170 at Harris Park on Saturday.
Despite a good start from David Bolton (35) and some lower order resistance from Andrew Dutton (, Colts were bowled out in the 54th over.
Tim Cameron got through a mountain of work, returning to the side from a shoulder injury to finish with 3-53 off 23 overs.
Ben Willis, Sam Perry and Rod Guy all picked up two wickets each.
Coming off an outright loss to St Michaels last week, captain Sam Perry has been pleased with the turnaround.
"It was a better performance this week than the last two weeks obviously," Perry said.
"We bowled to our plans quite well and while they batted well in patches we bowled well in patches.
"We bowled average in patches as well but overall it was pretty good."
Marcus Sevior resumes on 26 with Ethan Perry on 22.
Coming into the round eight clash, a 31-run opening stand in the round three loss to Lake Albert had been the best the Bulldogs have been able to produce.
After getting through a 23-over period without the loss of a wicket, Perry is looking to capitalise on day two.
"Ethan and Marcus did exactly what they do to do - survive the night and score runs," he said.
"It makes it a bit easier on us next week needing 120 from 80 overs.
"The start we got hopefully sets us up for a good win."
