About 1.10am, emergency services responded to calls about a burning Holden Commodore on Walteela Avenue.
A neighbour who called triple zero said she and others tried to stop the fire while emergency crews were on their way.
"All I heard was a bang and I've come straight out and the car was alight," she said.
"We were hosing it to try to stop it."
She and others had to move their cars to avoid further damage.
She said the car owner was away during the incident, which happened adjacent to French Fields.
The woman said police told her they would be reviewing CCTV footage.
Turvey Park Fire and Rescue's station officer Justin Bentley said one truck and four firefighters took about 20 minutes to extinguish and contain the incident.
Mr Bentley said there were no reports of injuries and further damage to surrounding cars.
