"Operation Chrome will operate throughout the southern region this weekend. We will see extra police on the roads to combat rural road trauma," Inspector Peter McLay said.
Inspector McLay warned the community they could expect to see more police on the roads, operating roadside stops and targetting poor driving behaviours.
"There will be lots of extra police during RBT and targetting people doing the wrong thing on our roads to try and curb some of the fatalities and other serious collisions we're having on our rural roads," Inspector McLay said.
"We're mainly looking at driving behaviour, so if someone's doing the wrong thing behind the wheel - be it using their phone, driving at excess speed or choosing to drink and drive - then they're the people we'll be looking for this weekend."
