The Saints have won their last three matches, including an outright victory over Wagga RSL last week, to move past the Cats and into second place on the ladder.
However their string of victories have been against the bottom sides.
Captain Beck Frostick stopped short of saying the clash at Robertson Oval was one that could show the side is a real competition force, but he's looking forward to the clash.
"We're out to prove to everyone that we're not a push over that's for sure," Frostick said.
"Calling us the real deal is a big statement as I still think Cats and South Wagga are bigger than us, and the Cats are favourite heading into the weekend, but there is no reason why we can't turn them over at Robbo. "We believe we can with the talent we have in the group."
On the other hand, Wagga City are out to bounce back from a horror performance.
They were bowled out by undefeated ladder leaders South Wagga for 106 chasing 2-287 after the Blues declared early on day on.
Coach Rob Nicoll is looking for a better application this time around.
"We spoke about how we performed against (South Wagga) and we weren't particularly happy with how we bowled and fielded and the batting got a bit worse," Nicoll said. "Now it's about our application, mindset and making sure we are doing the right things all the time.
"The best thing is we get to play St Micks this week who are second on the ladder."
The Cats will be boosted by the return of captain Josh Thompson as well as wicketkeeper Ben Turner.
However they've got a far from settled line up with Blake Walker, Ed and Louis Grigg away with representative duties while Nick and Mitch Cawley are also both away.
Saints have Saksham Gupta and Tom Williams out.
Wagga City scored a comfortable win when the teams met in a one-dayer earlier this season.
It was the last match the Saints have lost but Frostick knows they are a much better team now.
"I think we've come on a lot since then," he said.
"We didn't go in with much of a game plan that day and the last 10 overs cost us.
"We've been playing some good two-day cricket and are on a bit of a run so we go in with fresh minds."
