Rachel Clark was in the car with a friend, taking her children for a swim when they were involved in a car crash on Friday afternoon on the Sturt Highway near the Kapooka turnoff.

Instantly Ms Clark was terrified that her children, seven-month-old Landon and seven-year-old Ailish, had been hurt.

"Landon had no scratches, and Ailish had one on her neck and I am completely covered in bruises," she said.

"My first thought was for the kids, especially as Landon was not making a sound, but it turned out he was just sleeping.

"I did not know what I was going to be looking at when I opened the door to the back, and I was so relieved."

The vehicle had been Ms Clark's first car and unfortunately was a write-off.

But in the wake of the crash, Ms Clark has been overwhelmed by the support in the community.

"A truck driver immediately pulled over to offer assistance, and I cannot remember his name, but I am so grateful to him," she said.

"Even just on the side of the road, some random people stopped to help and were offering water.

"All the paramedics, firefighters and police were so kind and helpful."

Ms Clark said people could often take for granted how lucky Wagga, and Australia, is to have emergency services that are there in times of crisis.

She added they do an amazing job, no matter the circumstances.

"It was a hot day, but they were not complaining," Ms Clark said. "They put their comfort aside and are just so kind and caring and compassionate. It makes you realise there are still good people out in the community."
