The Yarragundry venue will host Australia's first 'Sultans of Slide' an event engineered to re-inject excitement into dirt track racing.
With free entry for spectators, competitors travelling from interstate and new classes of racing, Wagga Motorcycle Sports Club is at the centre of potentially a bold new world.
"It's something new for us. The discipline of dirt track racing in motorcycling needed a kick and we've come up with this," Motorcycling NSW chief executive David Cooke said.
"It's new classes of racing which brings in new bikes. We've got some Indians, Harleys and Triumps going around.
"The guys will race on the traditional dirt track layout around the oval and a new track on the inside which they'll do laps on which has got the jumps in it."
Cooke said the format will offer excitement for spectators as well as new classes for riders, and the Wagga crowd shouldn't be disappointed.
"Seeing some of these Harleys taking on these jumps... Harleys aren't really made for jumps and some are two metres high," Cooke said.
"This is the first time we've run it anywhere in Australia. The reason to bring it to Wagga is we wanted to give the club here a shot in the arm.
"It's a great facility and we want to give it a bit of a buzz and help them bring it up to standard."
Wagga is the opening event in three rounds of Sultans of Slide. Rounds at Appin, near Sydney, and Kempsey will complete the NSW Flat Track Cup series.
Jason Richards and Billy Clark head the local hopes while competitors from as far as the Gold Coast and Melbourne are on their way, indicating the Sultans of Slide is already putting Wagga back on the map.
There have been some long days and volunteer hours put in by the Wagga Motorcycle Sports Club to be in readiness.
"It's like a big bang for us at the end of the year," president Adam Beck said.
"I think we've been silently kicking goals but this is a good way to finish the year off.
"People can see some good bar-banging, good close racing and some dirt-trackers having some fun."
The Wagga club has had plenty of action on its motocross track at the Speedway but the Sultans of Slide - which will include four junior events and four senior classes (MX250, MX450, Clubman, and Open Multi) - puts it at the heart of a bold new initiative.
"It's a new style of dirt track racing, they do it over in the States and around the place and they're trying to introduce it to Australia. It's pretty much a revamp of dirt track to try to give it a boost and try something different," Beck said.
"Twelve months ago, I spoke to Dave Cooke and expressed an interest in it. He thought the same thing and we thought why not give it a go."
The event will run all afternoon and into the evening, finishing under lights.
Practice starts at 1pm before the outside track racing, with another practice session ahead of racing on the inside track over the jumps.
Entry is free.
