After winning the group one NZ Trotting Free-For-All with Tough Monarch at Addington on Tuesday, Alchin finished second in another group one feature.
Tough Monarch finished second, beaten 7.8 lengths, by Habibi Inta in the $300,000 Dominion Trot in Christchurch.
Habibi Inta did not run in the $100,000 feature on Tuesday, where Tough Monarch set a New Zealand record time to defeat fellow Australian trained trotter McLovin, and put on a dazzling display.
Anthony Butt drove the eight-year-old on both occasions.
Tough Monarch will remain in New Zealand for the upcoming Inter Dominion series.
He finished 11th in last year's final at Melton.
