That unremarkable sale marked the beginning for the BaptistCare Caloola aged care facility, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Work began on building the low-level care facility in June 1978.
The plan had initially been to lay the foundation stone on October 8, 1973, but contrary Wagga weather had hampered building work, so the ceremony did not take place until December 3 of that year.
Caloola was officially opened on October 21, 1979.
Melissa Noble, the BaptistCare Caloola residential manager, said there are currently 70 people who call the facility home.
She said there had been a lot of changes and expansion over the facility's history.
For many years, Caloola residents had a close bond with the children of the now-closed Tatton Public School, which had been located close by.
More recently, residents had been visited by children from the nearby Spring Kidz Early Learning Centres, in what they hope will become will a regular event.
But to celebrate their landmark anniversary, residents had a party, complete with barbecue lunch and a performance by a magician.
