The holders of the cup in 2018 are a notable omission from the new-look O'Farrell Cup.
The challenge system, which has been in place since the competition began in 1925, has been replaced with what was supposed to be a round robin system this season.
However only five competitions, including three under the Cricket Albury-Wodonga banner, have nominated.
South West Slopes president, and Temora vice-president, Peter Stimson said there was little interest in the new-look format.
"We're not happy with the concept," Stimson said.
"I thought the way it was working, and has for almost 100 years, is the way it should stay.
"The beauty of the O'Farrell Cup is it is a grand final every game and it should be celebrated every game but with a round robin it is not celebrated.
"It's just the winner after so many rounds.
"The amount of stories the O'Farrell Cup could tell because of the knockout system is going to be missing."
Murrumbidgee Cricket Council president Mark Favell felt it was a step in the wrong direction when the changed was announced in September, but Griffith joined Wagga in nominating.
Last season there were 11 associations involved, however four of them, Cootamundra, Leeton, West Wyalong and Young, forfeited their challenge against Albury.
It was the first time since 2005 that Albury had challenged for the cup and they dominated proceedings by winning nine challenges.
Stimson thought their strength and geographical location had a big impact on why last season's unprecedented forfeits unfolded.
"It's making it harder for young guys as getting thrashed in a higher representative game doesn't give them much incentive," he said.
"I think in the future there is incentive for a competition of small towns with an O'Farrell Cup concept."
The new-look competition starts this weekend with CAW Hume and CAW District to face off.
The winner will face Wagga next month.
Griffith will travel to Albury for their challenge in the other half of the draw.
As Albury is the highest seed they will host the final in February if they take victory.
