Maloney's team Orbit will take on minor premiers Nova in Thursday night's grand final of the four-franchise league.
Each team is captained by a state league-level player, with a draft held at the start of the season to help divide talent evently.
"It's been pretty successful and I'm looking to bring it back through Wagga Basketball now," Maloney said.
"There's been a lot of traction and it looks like we can move forward with it.
"Wagga (Basketball) has its own division two and three comps but haven't been able to get division one up and running for a while.
"Every season we have a draft and players play with different people every year. Everything's statted, in local comps there's usually no stats and it's not even statted in state league.
"I watch films on it and do stats on it after games, so it makes it more appealing and exciting for the boys."
Maloney hopes to expand the league with more teams in coming years.
"The idea behind it all is to build players much, to have guys play with better players and be coached a bit, then expand in a couple of seasons' time with more teams," he said.
"We've seen a lot of players who haven't played much structured basketball getting better playing alongside state league calibre guys, and not just playing with their friends like they usually would."
Nova, captained by Shaun Carter won seven of their nine games while Orbit squeezed into second spot with four wins.
Josh and Cam McPherson will be key players for Nova, while Maloney and Miguel Escandon will spearhead Orbit.
