On Monday night, the Forest Hill Rural Fire Service responded to and extinguished a bonfire in the suburb despite the fact a total fire ban was in place.

Spokesperson Matt Sun said the owner claimed he was unaware that a statewide ban had been in effect, and police had been notified.

"Ignorance is not an excuse to the fact," said the Forest Hill RFS online.

"Please do not become complacent and think that because the weather here at the moment is somewhat benign that it is okay.

"You cannot light a fire anytime during a [total fire ban], and if you do, a $2200 fine and 10 months imprisonment will apply."

Mr Sun said crews were also called out to Holbrook-Wagga Road, Cookardinia at 7.50pm to a roadside fire.

"They got that under containment fairly quickly," he said.

"Crews patrolled the area from 8.30pm to make there sure were no other flareups.

"A cigarette could have started it, but it is unknown at this stage."

Mr Sun said that in a third incident, firefighters responded to a grass fire on the Sturt Highway, Collungullie

"Crews were on scene by 9.46 pm, and it was contained at 10.16pm and declared out by 10.37pm," he said.

Mr Sun urged residents to be vigilant, especially during the statewide total fire ban.

"We don't need the small incidents that are using up resources, and it is not something we need at the moment," he said.

"Please do not throw cigarettes out of cars."
