With a modern, Aussie, hard-rock edge to their music, the three-piece band started out in 2017 making music in a backyard.
"[Band member] Harley's other band Kong Fuzi was doing this backyard gig and we basically just got to talking after the show with his drummer Pete too over a beer and ended up jamming together," Bassist and singer Nathan Iirilli said.
"It kind of just developed from there."
With Harley Gear on guitar and Bernabe Fitzpatrick on drums, SFM derived their name from a psychadelic 70s film clip starring Raquelle Welsh.
"There's three of these dancers in the clip and the vibe it gave off somehow inspired the name, but we do like to leave it up to people's imaginations as to the meaning," Nathan said.
SFM have landed a gig at Canberra's The Basement venue for the album release of Modulii, who also have roots in Wagga.
"It's turned out to be a bit of a Wagga original music night actually," Nathan said.
"This was the next great opportunity to come up for us - we did Fitz Live last year here in Wagga and we tried to keep the momentum going from their but it has been tough.
"So this gig was great timing and a really awesome opportunity."
Harley said the live music scene was particularly struggling in Wagga.
"For such a large provincial town, there just isn't the facilities for live music, particularly for younger people," he said.
"Wagga definitely needs a kick in the rear end to get it going, because a part from the cultural aspects, financially you get spin off - the venues earn money, taxis earn money, food outlets as well, the musicians, the sound guys, everyone earns money so you create a whole industry."
Original music was particularly difficult to break into the market according to Nathan, who said they will be playing all original songs at The Basement gig.
"I think there is a storm brewing to get it off the ground, but we are at the stage of just trying to get things over the line," he said.
The Basement show will be held on December 7 with four bands playing over the night.
