Not even trainer Alan Clare went into the Leo Hartley Memorial (525m) with confidence, however it didn't stop Shiny Nose ($41) putting on an impressive display.

After an even start it looked like $2.25 favourite Fierce Fran was going to dictate terms from in front, but Shiny Nose had other plans.

He idled alongside down the back straight before zooming away to win by more than four lengths.

Shiny Nose was third behind No Problem Here in the heats last week, who finished fourth in the final, but Clare thought the heavier track suited.

"He was the strongest dog in the field and being a heavy track it suited him," he said.

"He was in the right position and took advantage."

Adding to the upsets, rank outsider Que Allen ($61) run home for third.

It was the biggest win for the Nangus trainer since returning to the sport.

He spent over a decade on the sidelines but after moving from Wollongong decided to get back into training.

It's a move that's paying off.

"I only train a small team but after moving from Wollongong to here I started back up again," he said.

Clare only has three greyhounds in work but two were winners on Friday.

Nangus Road kicked things off with a bang by taking a thrilling victory in the Dosser's Quality Bakery Maiden (320m) to open the 11-race meeting.

Nangus Road had been placed in eight of his first 15 starts, including his last three, before finally breaking through for his first win.

He was in a battle with Nippy Uno down the straight, before winning by a nose.

Clare was pleased to get over the line.

"That was a bit of a shock too," he said.

Box seven provided to be a good number across the meeting with four greyhounds wearing the black rug finishing across the line first.

Epsom Express started the trend off in the third event for Brian Smith before Chatta Poochie won from the wide alley for Rodney McDonald.

Dana King made it three sevens in a row when he won the RSM Audit Tax Consulting 1-3 Wins Stakes (400m) before Keenando saluted for Shannon Ellis.
