In a couple of weeks, Wagga residents will once again have the chance to ditch their overdue library fines in exchange for a donation of non-perishable food items for those who are doing it tough.
Food for Fines will run from November 25 until December 24 this year at the Wagga City Library after which the collected food will be distributed to families in need across the region.
Wendy Harper, a member of the programs team at the library, said the initiative was a great way to give back to the community.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The food is distributed by a local charity to individuals and families across the region, who need some extra help with their groceries during and after the Christmas holidays," she said.
"People can bring in non-perishable food items to the counter, we will cancel their fines, and they can pop it under the tree.
"I would encourage everyone to bring some non-perishable food into the library even if you don't have any library fines."
Ms Harper said the program has been running for more than 20 years in the city.
"We want to help as many people as possible to clear their slate and start their new year afresh," she said.
