Eight months ago Kooringal Colts and South Wagga faced off for a place in the grand final.

But now they are experiencing vastly different preparations heading into their clash at Harris Park this weekend.

Premiers South Wagga are yet to taste defeat through the opening five rounds of the new season while Colts have done only that so far.

Colts captain Keenan Hanigan is looking to use a narrow loss last week to help turn things around before it's too late.

"We're 0 and five but in four of those games we've been in the contest," Hanigan said. "I feel like we're not far away but we're just not finishing off the job."

Hanigan believes being more consistent will see the results finally come their way.

St Michaels got home with three balls to spare last week and now the Colts face a bigger test as they look to end the winning run of the Blues.

"It doesn't get any easier," Hanigan said.

"They are on top of the ladder for a reason but we are up for a challenge so hopefully we can bring up that first win."

Hanigan wants a complete performance.

"We need to play a full game of cricket," he said.

"At the moment we seem to be batting well then bowling bad or vice versa.

"We've got to put a full game together and hopefully two-day cricket will suit our game a bit better.

"It's 80 overs each so there is plenty of time out there to do well.

"We're looking forward to two-day cricket and just need to get a win on the board to get our season going."

South Wagga have made a number of changes to their side following a comfortable win over Wagga RSL.

Brayden Ambler and Lachie Skelly are away with Riverina representative duties, Mitch Sykes and Billy Glanvill come out while their is doubt over the availability of Alex Jones for both days.

Warren Clunes, Nathan Cooke and Jake Scott come back in while captain Jeremy Rowe could play his first match of the season if he gets through training.

Stand-in skipper Joel Robinson is looking for more of the same.

"Things are going quite well but we are well aware that wins and good performances aren't just going to happen," Robinson said.

"We've got to make sure we are turning up and we've been tasted in most games in little facets.

"The Wagga City game earlier in the year we were obviously tested quite heavily and other games we've had small tests but every time we seem to come out the other end pretty well.

"It is going to be no different and we'll be tested at certain points throughout the game and need to make sure we win those moments."
