The Gobbagombalin Parklands Development will upgrade 4.7 hectares into a family-friendly area with new additions, such as an off-leash dog area and a basketball court.
The redevelopment will be implemented across two stages, with the first expected to commence by the end of this year or early 2020.
Lucy Daley recently relocated from Orange to Gobbagombalin and said the suburb is missing an off-leash dog area.
"The community lacks a really good area and space to use all year round to exercise your dogs and I miss that about home," Mrs Daley said.
"One of my favourite things to do in Orange on my days off was taking the dogs out to socialise in the park.
"I have two little spoodles who are very active and need lots of mental and physical stimulation to keep them out of mischief."
Mrs Daley said the park will also create an opportunity for her to mingle with other people within the community.
"Taking the dog down to the dog park is a great ice-breaker and allows you to speak to people you might not normally talk to," she said.
"We're having our first child in the next month or so and by the time it's all finished, our little one will be able to play in the park.
"It's the perfect time to redevelop it before [the estate] booms again."
The first stage will include construction of three shelters, a basketball court, the installation of 11 bench seats and a single toilet cubicle near the existing BBQ area.
The off-leash dog area, a BMX bike track and a double flying fox will be implemented in the second stage.
Residents in the past have previously told The Daily Advertiser that they feel abandoned and amenities were needed more than ever.
Strategic asset planner Ben Creighton said residents have been working with Wagga City Council for about 12 months and their submissions have guided the design process.
"Over the two years, we're talking about a half a million dollar budget, which is quite extensive," he said.
"It is supporting a large population in our northern growth area and we think it's very important that we deliver these sorts of assets."
Gobbagombalin resident Daman Uppal said future development in the northern suburbs has been on the cards for several years and it was great to finally see some action.
"We've been hearing that they will be putting up a small supermarket, gym and shops in the area, but nothing has come up," he said.
"The basketball court will be great, especially for the youngsters to leave their indoor video games and come outside and play.
"It's really impressed me ... the BBQ areas will also mean the community can get together."
