The Leeton trainer lines up Carramar Arapaho and Trunkey Tash in the feature and and expects Carramar Arapaho will be better for his win at Junee on Saturday night.
"He went into the race at Junee the other night underdone as he missed a bit of work after Temora," Hughes said. "He got kicked by a horse the day after he won at Temora so that run will top him off for Tuesday."
Hughes is pleased with how he's pulled up.
Carramar Arapaho has drawn barrier three in the second of the two heats.
Hughes is looking to dictate terms but has the in-form Rockita drawn barrier one.
"My bloke gets out quick and he gets out quick when he's in the middle or wider," he said. "As for the one I don't know if he can hold them as the ones on the outside have the momentum.
"We will be trying to lead and if we don't both of us will probably come unstuck as my bloke only knows one way - in front or outside the leader."
However despite racing out of her grade, it's Trunkey Tash who Hughes thinks is the better horse.
She's also come up with the gun barrier, and will start from gate one in the first heat.
Trunkey Tash is a national rating 62 mare in the 65-75 race but after a third in the Menangle Country Series final Hughes is pleased with her form.
"She is going the best she has ever gone," he said. "She is actually working way better than Arapaho.
"We worked them the other day and she was way too good for him but is in the harder heat."
It will also give his partner Fiona Schmetzer a drive in her hometown feature.
Hughes also lines up the resuming Illtellyounothing and second starter Janice Ivy across the eight-race card.
Griffith's annual Melbourne Cup meeting starts at 6.35pm.
