After guiding the Saints to the finals last season Scofield, who also has a strong involvement in junior coaching, decided to take up the challenge of improving the youthful Bombers.
Marrar won just one first grade game last year, but made the under-17s grand final in a strong sign of the up-and-coming talent Scofield will have at his disposal.
"They (North Wagga) are supposed to be getting a lot of good players back, so that made the decision a lot easier," Schofield said.
"They (Marrar) struggled this year and I felt a bit bad for them because they're so young.
"There's definitely talent to work with and they finished second in the 17s, that says there's a good base there.
"It will depend on how quickly they come along, but finals aren't completely out of the picture."
Scofield intends to focus on building from within, and won't actively pursue rival players to jump ship.
"I don't think that's the way to build a club, the best bet is if you build a culture and structure that makes girls come over off their own back," Scofield said.
"If we do happen to attract a few good, experienced players all well and good, but if not we'll deal with what we've got.
"Seeing (young Saints goalkeeper) Rachael Galvin come through and get best and fairest (this year), that's why I coach.
"We all like premierships and coaching good players, but at the end of the day I coach to see development and seeing girls do things they weren't at the start of the season.
"Only getting the one win this year, it's going to be good to see them get better as players."
Scofield began his coaching career at the helm of junior teams before taking up his first senior role with North Wagga this year.
The Saints won finals against Coleambally and Temora before they were eliminated in the preliminary final by The Rock-Yerong Creek, who went on to claim a third straight premiership by beating Charles Sturt University in the decider.
