SYDNEY FC CEO Danny Townsend and Newcastle Jets counterpart Lawrie McKinna believe a fully-fledged W-League game staged at Wagga is a more likely initial goal than an A-League fixture.

Sunday's W-League trial between the two clubs at Equex Centre was the first elite football clash for the city, but torrential rain ruined any hopes of 'road testing' its full ability to attract a crowd.
An A-League trial between the two sides will be played at Wagga next season as part of a rolling agreement where men's and women's games will alternate each year.
The Canberra Raiders played an NRL game at the venue this year and will do so again in 2020, while an AFLW fixture and AFL trial are also set for Wagga next winter.
Townsend and McKinna said a Wagga A-League game isn't out of the question, but issues like production costs and membership potentially makes a W-League clash more feasible.
"We tend to move our W-League fixtures around because we like to share it with different parts of Sydney. I don't see why we couldn't do that in regional NSW," Townsend said.
"It's a shame the weather is the way it is but it's a great facility.
"There's challenges with membership but you wouldn't rule it (A-League game) out, absolutely not. At the right time it could be seen as an opportunity for our fans to come out here and support regional NSW."
McKinna said the Jets investigated the possibility of hosting an A-League game outside of Newcastle this season.
"We looked at it but the costs involved made it very restrictive where you could go, because we have to pay for the production costs," he said.
"I wouldn't like to say 'yeah we can bring an A-League game here', because that makes it very hard.
I think that (W-League game) is more realistic, as long as it can be streamed."
Townsend said both clubs have a commitment to ensure top level football is accessible to country areas.
"It's important to play our part in developing kids and giving them access to high quality football. That's why we're here," he said.
"We've had a long partnership with Football Wagga and it's great to support them by bringing some content here."
