AFL football will return to Wagga for the first time in four years and the stage could not be bigger for a pre-season fixture with last year's grand finalists to meet.
Richmond destroyed GWS by 89 points in last month's grand final but the Giants will get a chance at some redemption in Wagga on Sunday, March 8.
The grand final rematch will start at 12.40pm.
The weekend in the city could become even bigger with Wagga City Council holding hopes for a double header with an AFL Women's (AFLW) fixture on the same weekend. The AFLW season fixture is set to be released on Tuesday.
Giants chief operating officer James Avery said the club is pleased to return to Wagga.
"We're delighted to come back to Wagga. It's something we've been talking to the AFL about for quite some time," Avery said.
"It's clearly been an important place for us as a club for many, many years and the AFL and us feel like bringing an AFL game is overdue and we're delighted that we're able to do that."
Avery said it does not get much bigger for Wagga than a rematch with the Tigers.
"For it to be a game that involves a team the calibre of Richmond, basically a grand final rematch, that looks to be, one, if not the biggest pre-season games on the calendar next year," he said.
"We think that's commensurate with the support that we get out of Wagga so we couldn't be more excited about it.
"From what I understand, it's the final week of the pre-season competition so you're going to see two teams that are absolutely priming themselves for the first round of the AFL season, which means you're going to see two really strong teams being put out on the park."
The game will form part of the revamped Marsh AFL Community Series and continues a big year for Wagga when it comes to professional sport.
Canberra played Penrith for NRL competition points in May and Sydney FC will host Newcastle Jets in a W-League game this Sunday.
The likes of Dustin Martin, Jack Riewoldt, Tom Lynch, Trent Cotchin and Alex Rance could be part of Richmond's line-up.
The Giants also bolster big names such as Jeremy Cameron, Stephen Coniglio, Toby Green and Lachie Whitfield. Plus Riverina products Harry Himmelberg, Zac Williams, Jacob Hopper, Harry Perryman, Matt Flynn and Jeremy Finlayson.
It will be both club's final hit-out before round one.
