Hardinge will stand down as Wagga United's president at the annual general meeting in January after 12 years on the club's committee, including four years as president.
Hardinge was humbled by the presentation of life membership to him.
"It certainly caught me by surprise," Hardinge said.
"I'm honoured. A few of the life members were there, such as Karen Leonard, who has been a very strong part of our club for a long time, so it was good to be in that company. It was a bit flattering, a bit embarrassing really, to be put in that esteemed company."
Hardinge believes the time is right to step down from the president's role at Wagga United.
"I've done it for four years and I think it's probably time," he said.
"I don't think it's the kind of position that you should hang around too long in. You need fresh ideas, new blood. You don't want to get stale as a club."
A good-sized crowd turned out to the William Farrer Hotel for the club's presentation night, where Wagga United announced the reappointment of Travis Weir as senior men's coach.
Weir was also presented with the Leonard Family Trophy for Clubperson of the Year.
"Travis is not only our senior men's coach, but coaches an U5's team and has been pivotal in the off field success of the club this year," Hardinge said.
"He has gone above and beyond in all aspects and was a fitting winner of the award."
Wagga United are on the hunt for a new women's coach after Chloe Antone announced her intention to step down.
Tyler Allen won Player of the Season for Wagga United in the Pascoe Cup and Lincoln Weir was named Player's Player.
Nazar Yousif won Golden Boot, while Kein Crevatin won the Young Player of the Season award.
Ashleigh Goode won Player's Player for the club's Leonard Cup team, while Felicity Kerslake was named Most Valuable.
