The traditional match race between the teams normally involves horse power with footballers driving a mini trotter, but this time it will be the footballers doing the running.

Two players from each team will pull a gig containing a driver over a distance of 100 metres.

The confirmed teams at this stage are Wagga Tigers from the Riverina Football League, North Wagga in the Farrer League, AFL Canberra regional women's premiers Riverina Lions and Waratahs from Southern Inland rugby.

Waratahs have taken part in similar end of season races for the past two years and club president Warwick Grant is looking forward to his players being involved again.

"It's a great way for the clubs to get together and have a novelty race," he said.

Tigers are looking to engage a light-weight driver as are North Wagga who have something of a home track advantage given the new circuit is so close to the Saint's home ground.

There has always been a strong rivalry between the two Australian football teams and Saturday night will be no different.

"We can't wait to get out and have a crack," Tigers' president Anthony Lyons said.

North Wagga will field a fast line-up with the player's speed one of their main assets in their drought-breaking premiership.

"Most of us haven't done any fitness since the grand final so it will be interesting," player Ben Alexander said.

The night will also feature several memorial races with the first of ten races to commence at 5.13pm.
