The first round of the Wagga Super 6s will be played at Conolly Rugby Complex on Thursday.
As the name suggests, six Wagga high schools will take part to see who will be crowned the city's best.
Southern Inland clubs Waratahs, CSU and Wagga City have been working with schools to help build up their rugby skills.
Brumbies development officer Zac Elliott hopes the competition can help boost participation in the sport.
"We're trying to bridge that gap to feed some more junior-senior players into the senior clubs
"It's something we're looking to roll out across the zone in the next three years."
Games for year 10 and 11 students will be 15-a-side and played over 25 minute halves.
There are five rounds, which each team playing each other, before the finals on November 28.
The new tournament replaces the Henderson Shield.
Wagga High School and The Riverina Anglican College kick things off at 4.30pm.
Wagga Christian College then tackles Mater Dei Catholic College at 5.30pm with Kooringal High and Kildare Catholic College facing off at 6.30pm.
