Representatives of the city's academic institutions made their annual pilgrimage through the city centre on Wednesday, to celebrate Wagga's historic educational prominence.

Past and present students of Charles Sturt University led the way behind bagpipers, Mayor Greg Conkey and Aunty Isabel Reid.
They were joined by representatives of the Notre Dame and UNSW research schools, TAFE, Defence Force graduands and students from both Mater Dei Catholic College and Wagga High School.

"We do this as a way to connect with the community," said Lisa Schofield, board member of Charles Sturt University and alumnus of the Bathurst campus.
"When the local schools are involved, we get to engage with the year 12 students and even the local primary schools.
"It's so cute, the kids come up to us, and seeing us all in our regalia they get so excited and want to know how they can get involved."
Baylis Street was closed to allow the procession of up to 50 people to make its way to the Victory Memorial Gardens.
It is a parade that has been marked since 2005 in the lead up to the university's official graduation period.
A holistic celebration of academic achievements at all ages, at the back of the parade Mater Dei College students Sean Watkins and Emily Simpson re-iterated Ms Schofield's assertions.
"It's a good opportunity to represent our college," said 16-year-old Sean.
"Getting to connect with other schools and finding our place in the community, that's why we do it," said 15-year-old Emily.
