Trials for under 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s boys and girls junior representative teams, along with the senior men's Waratah League side for 2020, were held at Bolton Park Stadium on Sunday.

Junior competition director Wade Willoughby was impressed with the turnout.

"The boys were insane," Willoughby said.

"For the 12s boys we had 16, for the 14s boys we had 20-something and the 16s boys we had almost 30, and that doesn't include people with apologies.

"For all three grades you could still add another 10-15 kids, which is amazing."

It bodes well for the representative program, which is yet to be confirmed, next year.

Numbers weren't as good in the junior ranks for the Blaze sides.

Willoughby said the clash with representative netball affected those wanting to be involved.

It's also been affecting local competition numbers however they believe the numbers are starting to build back.

"We've been working on that and we're hoping in the next few years we can build it up and hopefully things will be bigger and better for the girls," he said.

Willoughby has already selected the under 12s team with more announcements expected over the coming weeks.

The Heat and defending champions the Blaze are still working on their rosters for the season ahead.

It comes after a major board reshuffle for Wagga Basketball last week.

A new-look board has been installed with plans to generate more interest in the sport.

However the president's role remains vacant with a final decision of who will step into the role expected in the coming weeks.

"We're trying to get basketball back on the map again," Willoughby said.
