While most of Wagga slept, the quick of work of firefighters contained a garage fire from spreading in central Wagga.
Just before 3.30am on Saturday, Fire and Rescue NSW 472 and 480 were called to a unit fire at Crampton Street.
"First arriving [we] were confronted with a two-level unit with heavy smoke coming from the property and attached garage well alight," an online statement read.
"Crews in breathing apparatus quickly got to work and cut off the fire from progressing into the unit and started to make their way into the garage.
"Additional arriving crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring units."
The statement said the quick work from the first arriving crews and support by 480 and 472's pumper crews prevented the fire from progressing into the unit.
"The unit sustained heavy heat and smoke damage but was saved from being destroyed," it read.
"All occupants escaped the property without injury."
Police Inspector Peter McLay said investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.
