Hosted by Gondwana Choirs, Wagga Songfest is a weekend workshop that brings together a massed choir of local primary school and secondary school students with a passion for singing.

The program offers children the chance to sing alongside the Sydney Children's Choir and learn new songs that tell the stories of Australia.

Gondwana Choirs' executive director Bernie Heard said she is excited to return home and share her passion.

"As someone who grew up in Wagga and benefited personally from opportunities like Songfest, I recognise the value wholeheartedly in free regional programs that give local children of all walks of life opportunities to try new things," she said.

"We hope that we may encourage more choral singing, support local choral programs and perhaps even find new members.

"There is something special about singing in a choir, they breathe together, they move together, and you will hear that."

Ms Heard said everyone is welcome; all you need is a love of singing and a willingness to learn.

Songfest includes rehearsals and workshops after school this Friday from 4.30pm to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm at Riverina Conservatorium of Music, and culminates on Sunday with a final rehearsal and community concert at Henschke Primary School from 9am.
