A MAN has been arrested following a police operation involving an armed standoff in Wagga this morning.

Shortly before 4am today, October 12, officers from the Riverina Police District were called to a home in Mount Austin following a domestic related incident.
The man allegedly threatened police as well as self-harm with a machete when they arrived, causing police to deploy negotiators and Tactical Operations Regional Support officers to the scene.
It is alleged the man continued to threaten police for several hours before surrendering himself and was arrested without incident at about 8am today.
A crime scene was established, and several items have been seized for forensic examination.
The man, in his 30s, was taken to Wagga Police Station to assist with inquiries.
