New Narrandera coach Jordan Hedington is confident he can help the Eagles continue their climb up the Riverina League ladder.
Hedington will follow in the footsteps of Narrandera premiership coach Jim Rice and coach the club from his Canberra base.
The 22-year-old made a big impression in his first season at Narrandera and won the club's best and fairest award from just 12 games.
He was also named in the Riverina League Team of the Year.
Hedington jumped at the opportunity to coach the club.
"I'm really excited," Hedington said.
"I think we've got a really good bunch of young blokes coming through and we're hoping to get a few top up players to help us push towards finals and hopefully win a few more games.
"If we could win five or six games and keep climbing up the ladder that would be really good."
Hedington replaces non-playing coaches Jamie Grintell and Shaun Brooker at Narrandera.
It was a successful season for the Eagles, breaking a 38-game losing streak early in the year on their way to three wins for the year.
Hedington will remain in Canberra and travel to Thursday night trainings and remain in town for the weekend.
He has already received a call from Rice, who led the Eagles to their most recent premiership in 2012, who was happy to offer up advice on how to best handle the commitment.
"Jim has already rang me to give me a few ideas and a bit of guidance," Hedington said.
"I plan to come across on Thursdays, train Thursday night and then stay until the game on Saturday."
Hedington, made his senior debut at Ainslie before spending his last three seasons in AFL Canberra at Queanbeyan before joining Narrandera this year.
He enjoyed his first taste of the Riverina League.
"I was surprised with the standard. You hear different things in Canberra but I found it a really good standard of footy," he said.
Hedington intends to kick off pre-season training at Narrandera in mid-November. The club also continues to work towards finalising their group of Canberra-based recruits for the new season.
Youngsters Jack Grintell and Will Jacobson loom as the only departures at this stage, with the pair both set to move away for university.
