The RFS stated of social media that the crews had been "deployed to the Kildare fire west of Tenterfield" about 190 kilometres north of Armidale.
"They were actively involved in property protection. They faced extremely difficult fire conditions," the post stated.
They'll continue to work on the fire ground until 11pm (Tuesday)".
On Tuesday evening the RFS issued an emergency bushfire warning for Tenterfield as winds pushed the fire front towards the town of 4000 people.
Just before 8pm a wind change pushed the 169-hectare grassfire to move north of the town and the emergency warning was rescinded.
Three other bushfire emergency warnings were still active in north-east NSW on Tuesday night.
